Iaido (居合道)is a Japanese martial art of the sword, encompassing the morals and spirituality of the classic Japanese warrior. The practice of iaido is rooted in the philosophical directions of Confucianism, Zen, Taoism, Shintoism, and bushido – the codes of honor and idealism of the samurai.
Iaidoka, or practitioners of Iaido, practice the kata (techniques) grouped into 45 individual waza (skills or forms), achieving rank through the kyu-dan system created in 1883.
